Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
Tapping Songs for Kids!
I have been tapping with my kids for about a year & I just love how quickly we can solve a problem by using it. I usually tap with my kids as it is usually a problem we are all having together.
I made these songs up for my kids with the help of Sally Thibault my tapping mentor.
Kids take to tapping much faster than adults because: They are eager to learn, have much less “baggage” & they love to have fun.
Here are the fundamentals, I use when teaching kids how to Tap:
Make it Fun – I understand that this is supposed to be serious but if you can make it fun kids are more likely to use the tool & get more benefit out of it.
Practice first – Get your family used to the tool before using it for themselves. My tapping songs are perfect for getting the kids used to the tool before using it. To start with just singing the song & doing the actions is fun. Afterwards you can add the Tapping in.
Teach your kids about their Emotions. Ask them how they feel. Ask them to show you what all the different emotions look & feel like. Get them used to feeling the different emotions & how they feel in their bodies.
Don’t think you can tap in the middle of a tantrum. It’s not going to happen! Speak to them calmly to calm them down, I usually start singing the Box of Monsters song during the tantrum. Once they calm down you can start tapping.
Try Tapping in the Car on the way home, you will be so surprised how well they go singing the songs & tapping on the way. By the time they get home they will be calm as cucumbers.
Make it a part of your daily routine. Stuff happens every day, so just Tap away. There’s no use teaching kids that you have to hold onto or think that bad emotions are just something we have to “deal” with. Teach you kids that they can get rid of their negative emotions straight away.
Once you are ready to Tap these are the steps to follow:
Ask your child the following questions:
“What is the problem or issue?”
“How does this make you feel?”
“Where do you feel this in your body?”
“How strong is the feeling in your body?”
If you can use a set up statement (“even though I have this problem, that I feel strongly about in this part of my body, I am a great kid & I am OK with how I feel”) while tapping on the Karate Chop Point (outside of the hand under the little finger on the fleshy part) is a wonderful way to get the problem out of them. The karate chop tapping will help them verbalize how they feel. Tap on this spot about 7-8 times.
If they are suspicious or think it’s lame. Just go straight for the actual tapping.
For Kids there are 4 spots that will be tapped on about 7-8 times on each point. You use the middle three fingertips when tapping on your face and all the fingertips when tapping on the body.
Between the eyebrows on their forehead (in a comfortable manner)
Under the eyes on the bony part next to their nose. (in a comfortable manner)
Directly under the Collarbone, on the chest, in the fleshy area (in a thumping manner)
Under the armpits on their sides (both arms at the same time, just like a thumping big hug).
I use the Box of Monsters Song for anything bad, sad, mad, fear, anger, frustration etc.
When your child finishes the round of Tapping ask them how they are feeling. Ask them to check if the feeling in their body has gone or has reduced. If the negative feeling has gone, you can use Tapping to reframe (lock in a new positive feeling). If the feeling is still there, continue tapping until the feeling is mostly gone. Usually kid’s problems are gone with the first round or two. Kids don’t like holding onto negative feelings and embrace the Emotional Acupuncture (Tapping) freely and easily.
I use my Superhero song to reframe their emotions positively, after they have gotten rid of their negative feeling. Using the same points simply Tap in the positive feelings. The Superhero song is great for getting them back on track knowing that they are strong, brave and incredible kids.
The Box of Monsters Album is available on iTunes & via a link to it on my website. Each song is on there in different arrangements, so they can be used in different ways. For home you will only need the 2 songs from the whole album Box of Monsters & Superhero full versions; see below the one’s you need are highlighted.
